We love to read! We romantic girls tend to fall in love not only with the stories that the writers tell us, but also with the fictional beaus that the authors create in their imagination and who know how to make us fall at their feet.
if you ever read pride and prejudice either wuthering heightsyou will know what we are talking about when we say that some “romantic” characters could be more toxic than anything and although the plot has conquered us, it does not hurt to detect the red flags. Below we leave you some examples of those protagonists that we thought were perfect but, the truth, they were anything but that.
1.Travis Maddox of Wonderful disaster
When we met Travis Maddox in Jamie McGuire’s play, we fell madly in love with him, especially when we read the line: “I didn’t know I was lost, until you found me.” oh! It even makes us sigh, but we must not forget that Travis never accepted that Abby did not want to go out with him, that he destroyed his room when she left him and a lot of little things that do not speak of a character with a lot of emotional intelligence.
2. Aelin Ashryver Galathynius of throne of glass
Sarah J. Maas put us at a crossroads with this character because you either love Aelin or hate her and there is no middle ground. Her character may be perfect and her story may be very good, but the girl is not only stubborn, reckless, vindictive, and unsympathetic, but she always underestimates and ignores her friends because she thinks she is better than them.
3. Daemon Black from obsidian
We agree that romances between enemies and lovers are very exciting, but the protagonist of this work by Jennifer L. Armentrout drives us crazy, because it makes him bullying Katy for no reason and that’s the most unromantic thing in the world. Maybe he stuck with the old belief that “if she bothers you, she likes you” and even though Daemon showed that he loved Katy, that doesn’t make him any less of a jerk.
4. Ridge Lawson’s Maybe Someday
This character created by Colleen Hoover had everything to be perfect, he was attentive, sensitive, funny, empathetic and super affectionate, until he cheated on his girlfriend with Sidney. Also, the girl was not an evil witch, on the contrary, she was a kind, loyal and incredible person and, even so, Ridge never admitted her feelings for Sidney.
5.Tamlin’s A court of thorns and roses
Sarah J. Maas once again gave us a character that we love but who was toxic and what follows, because she not only kidnapped Feyre and took her to live in the Spring Court, Tamlin was controlling, jealous, violent, obsessive and saw the protagonist as an object of her property. Run away from guys like that!
6. Alexander Belov’s the bronze horseman
This character from the author Paullina Simons conquered our hearts because during World War II she was helping Tatiana, fed her family and sent her away from the war to save her. Also, he later married her. However, we must not forget that she pretended to have a relationship with Tatiana’s sister and that she cheated on her when they started living together in the United States.
7.Hardin Scott’s despues de
We must admit that loving Hardin has more to do with the fact that his character is inspired by Harry Styles, because the idea of a love story starting with a bet doesn’t sound romantic at all. Above all, we must not forget that this character created by Anna Todd is violent, controlling, manipulative, aggressive, mythomaniac and abusive.
8.Alex Markov’s kiss an angel
The fact that the proudest man in the world, according to his creator Susan Elizabeth Phillips, fell to his knees, begged and gave up his pride for Daisy does not mean that he was a toxic and scoundrel. He not only humiliated her for being rich, but she believed herself morally superior to teach him “a lesson” for being an “airhead” woman. Pff, how horrible!
9.Christian Gray’s 50 shades of gray
EL James gave us a novel that reminded us of the classic fairy tale but in its adult version. However, as exciting as the story is, we must not forget that this heartthrob needed to go to therapy, well, what’s up with him dating women who had the same traits as his mother? So much money, invest it in therapy!
10. Fitzwilliam Darcy’s pride and prejudice
Jane Austen gave us this classic and may we not be blinded by our love for Darcy. It is true that he is beautiful, mysterious, captivating, a millionaire, a true gentleman, but we must not forget that he is prejudiced, proud, class-minded, arrogant, has a hero complex and his social skills are rock-solid. The luck of this character is based on the time in which the story took place and that Elizabeth was too smart to discover that underneath all those flaws was a diamond in the rough.
